Today is 16 Oct 22. Time to review the purpose of this Blog - again! It is 2 years since the last review. 🤕 2022 was shaping up well and I was on track for a decent middle distance Duathlon race. Then COVID hit me! I tried to salvage the race season but never felt strong or healthy. Looking to 2023 now and focussing on being healthy and some sprint Duathlon racing mixed with some bike TT fun on the Canyon CF

Nothing Heavy!

Yep, nothing too deep in this blog entry!

Another 15 hour training week. Took Saturday off as rest as Friday was a swim in the morning followed by 50 mins of turbo technique with a 7 mile run off the bike. After the cross country on Wed my legs were sore. In hindsight I should have eased my way into the race on wed and not killed myself. Maybe next time I will do this!

Today I got out on the road on a bike with gears! A real luxury as all commuting is on my single speed. I did 30 miles with a 45 min structured effort block. Can't say I felt great. I ran 5 miles off the bike at a steady pace. The legs were sore but I seemed to ease into 7 min miling without much effort.

Maybe an essy commute on the bike tomorrow will help spin the soreness out! Trying a new route into work. How exciting!!

Question of Sport (Triathlon)

Ok. One point for each correct name of the RAF Triathlete. A bonus 2 points for the venue.

True, it's a blurred and you have to twist your head; but that adds to the fun!

Stomach Troubles

Pesky tummy bug got me. No training for last 2 days. Very frustrating. . . .

Eat Concrete

Pesky black ice. I hit the road hard today when my bike just seemed to slide from beneath me on a straight road. The camber of the road and ice were enough to take me down. I was more concerned about the following cars crushing me and my bike and I managed to grab my frame as I went down and roll onto the verge. Struth falling off hurts! Wrist shoulder and hip are suffering but the best medicine is to go swimming and loosen everything off. Not sure if the lifeguards approved of my road rash though! The bike is ok - benefits of a single speed as there are no bits hanging off in vulnerable places!

It was just so icy this morning but only once I was 20 miles into a 30 mile loop. There were numerous car accidents that I passed. Still, I will not be riding in the future if it looks anywhere near freezing. The risks are just too big . . . . like death!!

On a positive note, I swam a 100m PB yesterday at 1:14.8. Not the 1:12 I was looking for but it's chipping away!

Training Week

Well, training has picked up as the week has progressed. I have gradually felt stronger but the first race of the season (Dambuster Duathlon) doesn't seem that far away. We must remember that we can't be in top shape all the time and some races are just what's needed to break out of a training rut to move onto new training levels - well that's whatI tell myself!

So the training week went something like:

Mon - Rest
Tues - Swim. Run
Wed - Swim. Bike
Thurs - Run. Bike
Fri - Turbo and gym strength
Sat - Run

So next week should be back to normal training. Trouble is, I should have attempted a swim 100m TT last week to try and get close to 1:12. However, being ill ruined the timing of the schedule. I may take a shot at it tomorrow but I have not felt in 1:12 shape!!

Something is Wrong

Something is very wrong! You peeps out there will not want to read about a moaning old man not feeling well. . . . . But I am a moaning old man not feeling well!! I had flu from 24 Dec. The works: aching body, temperature etc. I rested (really, I did!) and then tried to do some easy training. To cut a long story short, that is the pattern I have fallen into: go training easy to see how I feel; then recover because I don't feel well! I wake up in the night with aches in my legs and get up in the morning feeling yuk. It's frustrating because I am not laid out on my bed feeling so ill I can't move. I just cannot train and feel yuk! I am a very frustrated old man!

Enough ranting! I managed to clock my 200m time for the Winter Swim challenge - quite how I did this, I am not sure but I felt like crap afterwards! I also tried a very easy session in the gym last Wed. See the pic above. You will note that I am in the small ring - easy spinning.

On a positive note, my internet seems to have finally been sorted! Hoorah!

Gimme back my health someone!!
